Bismillah Ar-Rahmani Ar-Raheem

Alhamdulilah, all praise is due to Allah, the mighty and the majestic. In reflecting upon the blessings of Allah, one of the greatest mercies that Allah has bestowed upon us is that of knowledge. It is by the mercy of Allah that He has sent Gabrial alayhi sallam with Quran; a guidance for mankind and He subhan wa tala has sent the messenger sal allahu alayhe wa sallam in explaining and teaching us this noble book and the many facets of our religion.
Throughout our busy schedules of school, work, family and many more at times we may forget to take part and seek the mercy of Allah azza wa jala i.e knowledge of this precious deen. For it is only when we make the time in seeking knowledge that we are able to follow it with action, increase in our faith, draw closer to Allah subhana wa tala, and pave the way to jannah for ourselves.

“Whoever seeks a path in search of knowledge, Allah would make easy for him a path leading to Jannah (paradise).” (Abu Dawud).

Some tips on seeking knowledge and becoming a better people (bithniAllah).

1.) Make/ check your intention; renew it constantly on why you are seeking knowledge (for the sake of Allah azza wa jala)

2.) Be among company that remind you of Allah and people who will help you in your path and journey to seeking this knowledge.

3.) Take time out of your schedule everyday to increase in knowledge. It could be 15 min. in between classes reading Quran, making thikr (subhanallah, wallahamdulilah, Allahu Akbar), or reading a Islamic book at the end of the day.

4.) Pick up various ways in seeking knowledge i.e downloading lectures in your Ipod and listening on the go (audioislam.com and halaltube.com) have good collections. Visit the various bookstores in Columbus and pick up topics of interest to you, also available on Islamic ebooks online (kallumallah.org) has a good collection.

5.) Make sure to be consistent in your acts-regardless of how small it is. Continue to do the good deeds and set more goals once certain topics are covered.

6.) Make constant dua that Allah makes the path easy for you.

I recently took the Bayyinah meaningful prayer class in Columbus, and subhana’Allah I realize that the more we seek knowledge the more we realize we’ve only touched a tip of the ice-berg i.e we have more to learn about this religion. We are truly in need of the mercy of Allah subhana wa tala and the best way to be covered by this mercy is being in remembrance of Him always; seeking knowledge. One of my favorite books “knowledge mandates action” states;

Let each individual examine himself and take advantage of his time, for indeed the resting place (i.e this world) is short, the (time for) departure is near, the road is hazardous, deviating from it is common, the danger is great, the one who takes himself to account has insight, Allah, the Most High, is watching, and to Him is the (final) recourse and return.

“And whosoever does an atom’s weight of evil, shall see it.” [Surah Az-Zilzaal: 7-8]
