Part 1: Diseases of the heart continued:

Being God conscious of Allah at all times is having Taqwa.

· When you look at the hearts of people, they are different

· Three kinds:

· 1.) Al-Qalbu Salim—the upright heart—righteous and has no sickness in it. This one is saved on the Day of Judgment—Surah Ash-Shu’ara: 26:88

26:88 the Day on which neither wealth will be of any use,nor children,

Yawma la yanfaAAu malun wala banoona

يَوْمَ لَا يَنفَعُ مَالٌ وَلَا بَنُونَ

26:89 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!”

Illa man ata Allaha biqalbin saleemin

إِلَّا مَنْ أَتَى اللَّهَ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ

No one who has a sick heart will enter paradise

Everyone will be cleansed—all will Muslims will enter paradise but each heart will be cleansed.

If a person commits sins and Allah doesn’t forgive him, then he will burn in the hell fire.

A person can be cleansed through either the fire of hell and will stay there according to the sins (impurities in his heart) or through the trails of the grave.

The Umbiya and the Prophets have the best of hearts—puriest:

Allah says in Surah As-Saffat about Ibrahim a.s.

37:84 when he turned to his Sustainer with a heart free of evil,

Ith jaa rabbahu biqalbin saleemin

إِذْ جَاء رَبَّهُ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ

2.) Al-Qalbul Mayt-the heart that is dead. This is the heart is covered up—the heart of those who don’t believe in Allah. (These are those who Allah says in the Qur’an as having coverings on their heart)

An-Nisa (The Women) 4:155

Fabima naqdihim meethaqahum wakufrihim biayati Allahi waqatlihimu alanbiyaa bighayri haqqin waqawlihim quloobuna ghulfun bal tabaAAa Allahu AAalayha bikufrihim fala yuminoona illa qaleelan

4:155 (They have incurred divine displeasure): In that they broke their covenant; that they rejected the signs of Allah; that they slew the Messengers in defiance of right; that they said, “Our hearts are the wrappings (which preserve Allah’s Word; we need no more)”;- Nay, Allah hath set the seal on their hearts for their blasphemy, and little is it they believe;-

Sealed because of their kufr—Allah sealed their hearts.

This heart is hard. As Allah says in Surah Baqarah 2:74

Thumma qasat quloobukum min baAAdi thalika fahiya kaalhijarati aw ashaddu qaswatan wainna mina alhijarati lama yatafajjaru minhu alanharu wainna minha lama yashshaqqaqu fayakhruju minhu almao wainna minha lama yahbitu min khashyati Allahi wama Allahu bighafilin AAamma taAAmaloona

2:74 Thenceforth were your hearts hardened: They became like a rock and even worse in hardness. For among rocks there are some from which rivers gush forth; others there are which when split asunder send forth water; and others which sink for fear of Allah. And Allah is not unmindful of what ye do.

· Bani Isreal—the jews.

· 3.) The heart of a Muslim, but the heart is sick. The heart is sick due to the Muslim following his desires, doubts, or sometimes both. Allah speaks to the wives of the Prophet s.a.w. in Surah Ahzaab stating:

· 33:32

Ya nisaa alnnabiyyi lastunna kaahadin mina alnnisai ini ittaqaytunna fala takhdaAAna bialqawli fayatmaAAa allathee fee qalbihi maradun waqulna qawlan maAAroofan

33:32 O Consorts of the Prophet! Ye are not like any of the (other) women: if ye do fear ((Allah)), be not too complacent of speech, lest one in whose heart is a disease should be moved with desire: but speak ye a speech (that is) just.

The heart can become sick due one following his desires; i.e. sexual desires.

Hudayfah Ibn Yamaman—companion of the Prophet s.a.w. said the hearts are four.

1.) Qalbun Ajrun: Clear and Pure: Only Allah and His rusuallah in his heart and he doesn’t worry about the dunya nor what the people think of him except for that which please Allah and His Rusullah s.a.w. This heart is like a lantern that is bright and shows the way: Heart of a Mumin

2.) Qalbun Anfal—a heart that has been closed: heart of a kaafir

3.) Qalbun Mankoos—the heart that has been flipped upside down: heart of a munafiq—he knows the truth and rejects—he sees, knows it, and turns blind to it.

4.) Qalbun Madatu Iman/Madutu Nifaq —nifaq and has Iman—hypocrisy in their Iman

The heart is a place—a source of goodness through the body.

The heart is affected the most by one committing sins. When a person commits a sin they may thing that it only affects their Iman, but when one commits a sin they are affected physically, mentally, and in every aspect—goes past that and affects those who are around you. It affects the people’s attitude and how they treat you. It’s important to realize this and protect oneself

Abduallah Ibn Mubarak said: “Committing sins kills the heart, and if you are consistent and persistent in committing these sins, then you will be degraded” You will be lowly in the sight of Allah and in the sight of people as well… “ And when you leave the sins, life returns to the heart and its better for you to disobey your desires so that your soul can have life”

Also the heart can blind a person from seeing the truth if the heart is not pure, clean, and healthy..and will not realize and see to as to what is good or bad. {22:54}
